Animal agriculture is vitally important to the state of Illinois, both
currently and in the future. Animal products provide high quality nutrition
for humans and a large job base for Illinois citizens. Animal production
in Illinois generates over $2.5 billion in total income to producers, provides
alternative enterprises and employment, and produces value-added products
from grain and forages.
The Department of Animal Sciences is engaged in a number of research and
outreach projects that address the benefits and problem areas surrounding
animal production in the state. Such projects as the 5-State Beef Initiative
and research on swine odor are just a few. In addition, the tent features
a display showing who’s involved in Animal Sciences extension.
