The Illinois Council on Food and Agricultural Research (CFAR) is a statewide coalition organized to support relevant, high-quality research and related outreach programs for Illinois’ food and agricultural systems. This year, C-FAR proudly celebrates the 10th anniversary of its founding in December 1993. During the past decade, industry leaders, public officials, and researchers have worked together in an unprecedented partnership through C-FAR to ensure the advancement and success of Illinois’ number one industry.
Comprising representatives from a broad range of industry sectors, C-FAR puts forth one voice for Illinois food and agricultural research. This cadre of dedicated volunteers is the backbone of the C-FAR organization. The CFAR membership has grown across its 10 years to a record high of 71 Illinois industry-based organizations, 39 governmental agencies and university entities, and a host of individuals dedicated to the C-FAR mission. Together, CFAR members and scientists identify the highest priority research needs for Illinois. C-FAR members provide input though working groups formed around five research focus areas: expanding agricultural markets, rural economic development, agricultural production systems, human nutrition and food safety, and natural resources. C-FAR is pleased to support several research projects being showcased at Agronomy Day 2003.
