The Illinois Council on Food and Agricultural Research (C-FAR) is a statewide partnership dedicated to the advancement of Illinois food and agriculture through industry-driven, high-impact research and outreach programs. The C-FAR membership is comprised of 68 food and agricultural associations, 39 state and university entities, and over 140 individuals. C-FAR members play a key role in determining the direction of C-FAR-funded research with the goal of maximizing benefits from the C-FAR investment.
C-FAR-funded research is focused around the following general research areas: (1) expanding agricultural markets, (2) rural economic development, (3) agricultural production systems, (4) human nutrition and food safety, and (5) natural resources. Researchers from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Illinois State University, Western Illinois University, and other Illinois research entities collaborate via C-FAR to address our state’s highest food and agriculture priorities. Hundreds of valuable research initiatives are currently underway in such areas as advanced production technologies, value-added opportunities for crop and animal producers, health benefits of foods, crop and animal disease prevention, sustainable agriculture, web-based information tools, watershed modeling, and more. C-FAR is pleased to support many research projects being showcased at Agronomy Day 2002.
